Well the college basketball season is finally over with Kansas beating Memphis in overtime last night. If you're a Memphis fan, the pain, you probably didn't sleep well last night.
As a Siena fan, I can relish in the fact that we beat Vanderbilt in the first round with a dominating performance. CBS didn't have to switch to the game nationally, as it was a blow out.
The loss to Villanova stung a little, but for a small school like Siena (2700 students) the first round victory was a nice way to cap a successful season. We are only losing one player from the team, and have Junior College transfer coming in that is big (6'10", 260 pounds).
Somebody needs to tell CBS that One Shining Moment sucks. It is just awful. Look up the lyrics and ask yourself if this is a song you would ever listen to. Let it go CBS. Let It Go!
Siena takes on Vanderbilt tomorrow night in the NCAA tournament, and I am thrilled.
I need the Saints to pull the upset, and continue the high after the Giants Super Bowl victory.
Put on your old green bonnet
with the yellow ribbons on it
and we'll drink six friars to the grave.
Though we ain't got knowledge,
we're a damn good college.
S-I-E-N-A
As a lifelong Giants fan, I am thrilled that they won the big game. None of the pro sports teams I follow had won a championship since 1991, and this one was completely unexpected.
I'm not too thrilled with Michael Strahan's "We stomped you out" message to the Patriots at yesterday's parade. Winning gracefully goes a long way in my book. Lay off the Patriots people. They are a great football team. Tom Brady drove his team down the field for the go ahead score with under 3 minutes left. He had a very good game considering the pressure (from the Giants' pass rush) he was under. The only bad news in the Patriots' loss is having to listen to Mercury Morris and the rest of the jaded Dolphins crow for another year.
I'm not sure what Whoopie Goldberg was doing at the parade. She is terrible. I'm pretty sure there are other celebrities in New York who would have been better. Anybody else.
New York Giants Super Bowl Hat - $29.99
New York Giants Super Bowl T-Shirt - $19.99
New York Giants Super Bowl Pennant - $9.99
The feeling after the Giants won the big game - Priceless
So the Mets on are the verge of adding Johan Santana to their rotation, and I'm loving it.
They're giving up 2 well regarded prospects in Gomez and Guerra and two desent prospects in Humber and Mulvey for one year and the privilege of signing Santana to a contract in the neighborhood of $150 million (that's a respectable neighborhood). The Mets are in a win now situation. They already have a center-fielder in Carlos Beltran, and they kept Fernando Martinez in the farm system.
I say get it done, then get to work on the bullpen.
Here's the rotation:
Johan Santana
Pedro Martinez
Oliver Perez
John Maine
Orlando Hernandez/Mike Pelfrey
It all hinges on Pedro's health, but still that should be good enough to get to the post season barring an embarrassing collapse (which seems unlikely).
I've decided to bag the formal introduction, and just start posting. If you want to find out more about me, you'll have to return.
So, I'm really excited about the Super Bowl. I am a huge Giants fan. To think they are in the big game makes me giddy with excitement.
The quick background - obviously I love the NY. Mets. Baseball is my favorite sport, the Mets are my team. When the Mets collapsed, gagged, choked down the stretch I was pretty upset. The thought of the Mets underachieving followed by a Giants team without Tiki Barber and a Knicks season that was lost before it started made me think this would be a long winter.
Ah, but the sun is shining here in the cold northeast. The Giants rolled through the playoffs and will meet the Patriots next Sunday.
One of things I love about the build up to the Super Bowl is listening to fans call into sports talk radio with their recipe for success.
Please.
You sat on hold for 45 minutes waiting to spew your opinion. You proabably have bulleted list of points you want to make, and you actually think your smarter than all the NFL minds that have tried to come up with a game plan to defeat the Pats.
You are an idiot.
